Game Birds

THIS volume includes game birds and birds of prey, and ably supplements the two volumes which deal chiefly with song birds. The author is in sympathy with the efforts of the League of American Sportsmen and the Audubon Societies, which are striving for the legal protection of birds against indiscriminate slaughter. In hunting birds, the camera is succeeding the gun, even in the hands of experienced hunters. The home life of the birds included in this book shows many of them to be exterminators of harmful insects and rodents, scavengers of rivers and sea coasts, as well as clever and interesting bird acquaintances.

The division into chapters is based upon habits and habitats. Birds of the water--divers, swimmers, and waders--are followed by the wild fowl of the fields and air--the grouse and their kin, the pigeons and, last, the birds of prey.

The illustrations are all full-page plates in colour.
