Rosy Boa

Lichanura roseofusca, (Cope)

Colouration: Bluish gray or brownish above, sometimes with traces of three brownish stripes. Abdomen red or yellowish, mottled with brown.
Dimensions: Attains a length of about a yard, of which the tail occupies about four inches.
Distribution: Southern California and Arizona.
Habits: Apparently nothing is known of the habits of this rare snake.

Body stout, tail short, blunt and slightly prehensile. Head rather long and but slightly distinct from the neck. Eye large, with elliptical (cat-like) pupil and surrounded with a ring of 7 to 10 scales. Several pairs of shields near the snout; remainder of head covered with scales. Scales of the body in 39 to 45 rows.
