Description
Shaped like the common shrew but much larger, with a body nearly the size of a Blarina. Colour, blackish slate, chin whitish beneath clouded with dusky. Tail, dark above, white below.
Range
Labrador and Canada to the Adirondacks and Alleghanies of Pennsylvania. From Minnesota west occurs a browner species (S. palustris) and still others on the Pacific coast.
