About the Book
The Magic of Jewels and Charms (1915) is George Frederick Kunz's companion to his Curious Lore of Precious Stones — a second vault of jewel belief, this time ranging beyond gems proper: meteorites worshipped as celestial stones, bezoars and snake stones trusted against poison, toadstones and fossil 'thunderbolts,' angelic hierarchies with their gems, and amulets from ancient Egypt to the modern city.
Kunz, Tiffany & Co.'s celebrated gem expert, wrote from firsthand acquaintance with the world's great stones and a library of sources in a dozen languages. His pair of books remains the standard reference on the folklore of jewels.
This digital edition presents the complete keyed text of the 1915 first edition. A few keying errors in chapter titles (such as 'Dealing' for 'Healing') have been restored to the printed text; everything else is preserved exactly as keyed.
