CC. Species of moderate size, the expanse of the wings rarely exceeding one and one-half inches. No vestigial vein in cell R + M of the fore wing. (The Erynnis Group.) D. The upper surface of the wings black or dark blackish brown, this color extending quite uniformly over the entire wings excepting for some well-defined whitish or tawny spots of small or moderate size; in some species the wings are without spots.
