This is an exceedingly common species, which occurs everywhere in Canada and the United States. It is also found in Europe. Its larva is one of the species, which under the name of "cutworms," are known to inflict extensive injuries upon growing plants. They burrow into the loose soil during the day, and come forth at night and do their mischievous work. They are a plague to the market-gardener in particular.
