Summer form diffinis Boisduval.
Summer form axillaris Grote & Robinson, Plate II, Fig. 3, male; Fig. 4, female.
This species is trimorphic. The life history has been in part very carefully worked out by Mr. Ellison Smythe of Blacksburg, Virginia. The form diffinis has the marginal band dentate inwardly.
The caterpillar feeds upon Symphoricarpus, Lonicera, and Diervilla. The insect has a wide range from New England to Georgia and Westward to the eastern boundaries of the great plants.
