This is quite the commonest of all the hawkmoths of the American tropics, and becomes a perfect drug in collections made by amateur naturalists, who venture into those regions, net in hand. It may at once be recognized by the figures we have given, which are taken from specimens bred on the Indian River by Mr. Wittfeld. The sexes are dissimilar, as the student may observe. It straggles north sparingly, even as far as Canada, and is common in the Gulf States.
