We give in Figure 72 a cut representing a specimen of the typical anna, in which the hind wings are wholly black. Persephone is the normal form. The insect is very variable in the amount of black displayed upon the hind wings, and also to some extent in the width and extent of the light lines on the primaries. The species is found in the Atlantic States, and is not at all uncommon in western Pennsylvania. The larva has been described by Dyar.
