The Hairy-cap Mosses

Among the best subjects for a beginner are the Hairy-caps, the most common mosses, which every-one who frequents the woods will find bordering trails and wood-roads, or covering the ground in almost all open places. They are so large that with a hand-glass many of the principal parts may be made out and will thus serve as a foundation for a study of other mosses.
