House-fly and Its Near Relations — Part 2

If we could only get our boards of health in cities to attack the house-fly question and to insist on the proper disposal and treatment of horse manure the insect would soon become scarce, and perhaps its agency in the spread of disease will induce these officials to look into the matter. It is a noticeable fact that horses are very much on the decrease in cities; the motor vehicles of different kinds are becoming multiplied, and with this change will come a decrease, and a marked one in the number of house-flies. In the country and in agricultural communities there is not much hope in the near future except through better knowledge on the part of the inhabitants and an effort to do away with the breeding places of this nuisance.
