Length

6 inches.

Description

Smallest of the weasels, with no black tip to the tail, which is very short. Colour, dark reddish brown above, white below. In winter pure white throughout.

Range

Arctic America, south to Northern Minnesota, replaced on the Artic coast of Alaska by the Eskimo weasel P. rixosus eskimo Stone. In Western Pennsylvania occurs another little weasel, allied to the least weasel, the Alleghany weasel P. alleghaniensis Rhoads.
