Decorations: Siam

A portrait of Mary Queen of Scots, in the possession of the Baroness Braye, represents her palfrey as trapped with purple velvet, and cut out in lattice shells, on which are worked a net of pearl beads. The bridle and head-gear are richly jewelled, and ornamented with pearls and bands of ribbon. Sir John Bowring, in his account of Siam, describes the State horses of the king as being adorned, some with pearls, others with diamonds, others with emeralds and rubies, and the reins were thick cords of gold, of exquisite workmanship. This was in 1718, when an embassy was sent by Philip V. of Spain to the King of Siam.
