The Whites (More common representatives)

The more common representatives of this group are the well-known cabbage-butterflies; in fact, all of the species that occur in the eastern United States feed upon cabbage and allied plants. They are white butterflies more or less marked with black; occasionally the white is tinged with yellow, and yellow varieties of our white species sometimes appear. Our Eastern forms can be separated by the following table: A. Unusually large species, expanding from two to three inches. (P. monuste), p. 72.
