The Black-throated Blue Warbler breeding in the "higher parts of the Alleghanies, from Virginia to Georgia," has been described under the above name by Dr. Coues as similar to Dendroica cærulescens but somewhat smaller and with "the middle of the back nearly or quite black, instead of blue, or blue with only a few black touches." (Coues, The Auk, xiv, 1897, p. 96.) 658. Change Dendroica cærulea (Wils.) to Dendroica rara (Wils.), the former name being preoccupied. (See Ridgway, The Auk, xiv, 1897, p. 97.) 684.
